Ben Howlett, the Member of Parliament for Bath, used questions to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to champion small businesses in Bath and praise the work Visit Bath are doing to promote them.
Speaking in Parliament, Ben said, ‘Last week’s announcement on business rates by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor will provide welcome relief to hundreds of independent small businesses in my constituency. Will the Minister join me in congratulating our tourist management organisation, Visit Bath, as it focuses more attention on the marketing of our independent small businesses in Bath in domestic and international markets, which will bring jobs and growth to my constituency?’
In response, Margot James, a Parliamentary Under Secretary, said, ‘I absolutely join my hon. Friend in congratulating Visit Bath on all the trade and ideas that it brings to SMEs in his constituency.’
Leslie Redwood , Head of Business Development and Partnerships at Visit Bath said , “As part of our ongoing work to facilitate and support projects for Small and Independent Businesses in Bath we have set up an initiative called “Positive Projects for Bath’s Independent Businesses” . The idea of this work is to act as a catalyst and a local enabler of small projects to directly assist small and independent businesses which are such a vital piece of the mosaic of Bath’s unique offer. The businesses themselves then project manage and deliver these initiatives and Visit Bath helps ensure that the message is promoted regionally, nationally and internationally and assists in enabling the projects through local contacts and partnerships. The work has identified 5 key areas – Support with Strategic communications to local stakeholders, the need for support with wayfinding around the area , the need for support with events, support with Rent and Business rates issues and the need for a Local Forum to support two way communication. We have already had successes from across all of these “Positive Projects” and deeply appreciate Ben Howlett MP and team’s support to deliver this local success and the recent commendation for the project in the Houses of Parliament”
